R&D Associate Staff Member - Multiscale Hydrological Modeler

Purpose:
The Climate Change Science Institute within the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a hydrological modeler with experience in surface water/groundwater interaction.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
You will use and contribute to development of multiscale and spatially resolved models of surface water and groundwater to gain insights into hydro-biogeochemical processes at surface water/groundwater interfaces including river corridors and coastal regions. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of researcher who are modeling watershed function using state-of-the-art integrated surface/subsurface simulation tools and comparing those simulations to observations at various spatial scales.
Qualifications Required:
A Ph.D. in hydrology, applied mathematics, computer or computational science or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience in integrated surface/subsurface hydrological models, high-performance computing, and model/data integration is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a key contributor to a multidisciplinary team are also required. Experience with hyporheic zone science or seawater intrusion into groundwater is highly advantageous. Experience with Python-based workflows, the Amanzi-ATS and PFLOTRAN simulation tools, and uncertainty-aware model calibration would also be advantageous.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
